Boat Project week At RYC 19-21 October 2007


PROJECTS COMPLETED.

- Jib tack is fixed, thanks Dick.
- Two new foresails are onboard.
- Slug installed on boom for keeping the clew of the main down when loosening the outhaul.
- The 12V power outlet in the galley is replaced and working now.
- The batteries are verified charged and it is determined that the switch had been accidentally turned off.
- Two new internal spare halyards are installed. They're long enough to accommodate being cut at chafe points. Also, they can be used for MOB recovery.
- The autopilot wiring is soldered into the fitting and the wire run up to the electric panel.
- Repair tears in spinnakers.
- Install a bail at the top of the mast for the external halyard blocks.
- Install two additional self-tailing winches aft of the main set for use with spinnakers
- Install 2 line clutch on cabin top for organizing deck
- Change Engine Oil
- Rewire GPS power to its own circuit
- Install another autopilot extension to help with its accuracy

PROJECTS IN PROCESS.

- The bolt on the gooseneck is about 80% drilled out, we tried a replacement but find it still needs to be further drilled
- Bilge pump repair, main bilge pump switch was thought to be bad. Turns out it is the wire from the battery
- Install GPS signal wire to main panel. Its in place, we just need to wire the serial port for the computer connector
- Compass lights, one has none working the other has two. We'll put one working in each for best night vision

PROJECTS TO-DO.

- Install a few LED bulbs to reduce power consumption. One in tri-color nav light, several in cabin
- Replace sanitation hoses in head, ensure valves working properly, flush holding tank
- Rig first and second reefing lines to cockpit using newly installed clutch
- Rig tiller extension clip so we can reach the cabin top and still hold the helm
- SSB Radio, has sub-projects
       1) Program Channels
       2) Re-install Tuner
       3) Re-install Transceiver
- Navigation, has sub-projects
       1) Setup computer and software - done
       2) Wire GPS so it can be plugged into computer
       3) Wire SSB so it can be plugged into computer - done
       4) Install software and setup computer to receive weatherfax transmissions
- Sattelite Phone, has sub-projects
       1) Order and subscribe to service
       2) Setup sat phone email service on computer and test
- Trailer, weld to fit Plus-Sixteen and transport to shipping location.
- Shipping, make arrangements to ship trailer to Hawaii and ship Plus-Sixteen back.
- Tune rig, adjust all stays and shrouds
- 2 buckets, the race rules require we have two rather odd sized buckets. For bailing I suppose
- Water tanks, we'll install bladders rather than carry jerry jugs. We can place in bilge to starboad for ballast
- Inventory sails, decide which to take and which to leave, spare spinnakers from Portland to CA if needed
- Check manual bilge pumps, for peace of mind
- CO2 containers for inflatable life vests need to be updated and spares added
- 2nd anchor from Portland to CA to meed race rules
- Lash mast bottom, to meet race rules
- Sail repair kit, we have all the stuff it just needs to be compiled into one bag or box
- Vang pin is currently undersized, needs to be replaced with proper pin
- Inspect banding tool, its been in the bilge since the last trip so we need to make sure it works
- Drouge from Portland to CA, this could be useful in stablizing the boat in the event of loosing the rudder.
- Polars, we need these boat speed measurements to plot the most efficient coarse given the weather conditions
- Test spare rudder, for peace of mind and to meet race rules
- Storm tri-sail track? We need to study the race rules and determine if this is something we'll need to modify to comply
- Race rules state that a valise Life raft must be repacked each year. We'll repack and get a new certificate
