Double-Handed Farallones
Our next race is the Double Handed Farallones, March 29. 58 nautical miles
round trip. The Islands, 26 miles due west of the Golden Gate, are
inhabited only by a ranger. The Islands are a sanctuary for birds, seals
and sharks. In the past egg gatherers took thousands of eggs from the
island for the San Francisco market. Later a light house was erected. The
Islands are rocky, windswept and desolate. Often the springs wind are very
strong. We have sailed there uneventfully twice before. If the winds are
fairly brisk, we should do well in the race. See http://www.sfbama.org/ for
race details.
